Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) – Pediatric PACU is responsible for providing high-quality, compassionate, and family-centered care to pediatric patients recovering from anesthesia following surgical or diagnostic procedures. The RN will assess, monitor, and manage the patient’s condition during the post-anesthesia period, ensuring a safe transition to the next phase of recovery.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide direct nursing care to pediatric patients in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU).
  • Assess patients upon admission to the unit, monitoring vital signs, pain levels, and airway management.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments per physician orders and protocols.
  • Recognize and respond promptly to signs of complications or adverse reactions related to anesthesia or surgery.
  • Collaborate closely with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure safe and effective patient care.
  • Provide emotional support and education to patients and families regarding the recovery process.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough documentation in the EPIC electronic health record system.
  • Participate in ongoing quality improvement and patient safety initiatives within the department.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong pediatric assessment and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to respond rapidly in emergency situations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for family-centered care.
  • Proficiency in EPIC charting system preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced acute care environment.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (BSN not required).
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of recent PACU or pediatric critical care experience.
  • Licensure: Active RN license in the state of New York.
  • Certifications: BLS, ACLS, and PALS (AHA or ARC required).
