Nielsen Madsen + Barber, a long-established civil engineering and land surveying firm located in southeastern Wisconsin has an immediate opening for an experienced Municipal Engineer.

The candidate selected for this position will enjoy working at a professional firm with over 71 years of history and will have the opportunity to utilize their engineering, organizational, and project management skills on a variety of municipal engineering / public improvement engineering projects.

The successful candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, a minimum of five (5) years of experience working with municipal / public sector clients and possesses a current State of Wisconsin Professional Engineer (PE) license.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serves as liaison with local municipalities and attends municipal meetings as required.
  • Coordinates and performs ordinance compliance reviews of developer-based improvement projects.
  • Prepares public improvement plans including paving, drainage, sanitary sewer, watermain, and storm sewer designs.
  • Performs and/or supervises the inspection of public improvement projects.
  • Writes and assembles specifications and prepares construction cost estimates.
  • Serves as a design engineer and performs complex drafting, computational, and design duties and reports in preparation of plans and specifications.
  • Performs requested studies and prepares reports of findings with recommended solutions.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in civil / municipal engineering.
  • Ability to work in project teams and communicate effectively.
  • Comfortable speaking in public settings.
  • Experienced with land development, stormwater management, public bidding & contracting, and permitting.
  • Experience with water distribution and sewer collection systems.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, WinSLAMM, and hydrology & hydraulic software.
  • Possess organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects / tasks.
